Whisper asked 50,000 women about their periods and this is what they said
Last week secret-sharing platform Whisper asked more than fifty thousand American women about their periods and discovered some surprising things. The poll quizzed women about all aspects of their monthly cycle.
According to Whisper, if it’s Thursday, you’re probably discussing your period. That day came out top in the poll as the most likely day of the week to talk all things menstruation. The 20th is the most popular date of the month for period talk overall though.
While there are more than 5,000 slang names for period, it seems we’re happy to stick to just a few. Half of all people of all people surveyed referred to their period as their ‘time of the month.’ An inventive 17% call their period, ‘surfing the crimson wave’ while an additional 17% affectionately call it ‘Auntie Flo’ and 16% refer to it as ‘leak week.’
Getting through the week
Cramps, headaches, bloating: the realities of being on your period can be harsh, whether you’ve got an important meeting to nail, a child to look after or…just, y’know…life.
So how do you deal with period symptoms? 34% of the people surveyed said they need to sleep off their stomach cramps. Junk food was the crutch of choice for 33% of people who said that’s how they get through the week. 23% chill out with a box set on Netflix while only 10% opted for the traditional wine and chocolate option.
How do you deal with your period symptoms? Do you agree with the answers the American women gave – or do you think British women are different? Whatever you think – let us know in the comments!
