Supercharge Your Face Mask: 3 DIY Recipes That Actually Work

If you don’t already use them, face masks are a core part of a healthy skincare regime. The right face mask can hydrate skin, remove excess oils, improve the appearance of pores and pull out impurities. Whether you need to rejuvenate tired skin, plump up a flaky face or tone down an oily t-zone – there’s a DIY mask for that.

This month’s box contains one from our new favourite brand, ooh-arr. Their masks are packed with natural ingredients and essential oils including vanilla, honey, aloe vera and rose. You can stock up here or have a look in your store cupboard and try one of our simple step-by-step DIY face mask recipes.

You Need: Serious Exfoliation

Exfoliating removes the build–up of dead skin cells that can cause skin to look dull and make-up to look cakey, leaving you with fresher, brighter, smoother skin. What’s not to like?

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 50g of oatmeal

  1. Combine the egg yolk, honey and olive oil with the oatmeal. Mix thoroughly.
  2. Apply to the face for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Rinse with lukewarm water and moisturise.

You Need: To Hydrate Dry skin

Cold winters and office air-con can be harsh on skin, leaving our faces parched and patchy. The essential fats in avocado can work wonders on dry skin while the Vitamin C they contain is a natural skin brightener, banishing sunspots and blemishes.

  • ½ avocado
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 tablespoon of full-fat plain yoghurt

  1. Mash the avocado.
  2. Add the honey and yoghurt and combine.
  3. Apply to the face for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Rinse with a washcloth and moisturise.

You Need: To Banish Blackheads and Shine

Excess oil production on the face is often due to open skin pores which can get clogged with dust and dirt leading to blackheads, breakouts and shiny faces. A mask can help to narrow skin pores and draw out impurities. Blackheads be gone!

  • ½ cucumber
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

  1. Puree the cucumber.
  2. Combine with the egg white and lemon juice and place in the fridge to chill.
  3. Apply to your face for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Rinse with warm water.

You Need: Breakfast

Use your leftover ingredients to whip up a super tasty – and healthy – brekkie. Just add berries!
