Pink Parcel Period Talk: Claire, Head Of Content
Wouldn’t it be easier if we were all more open about the perfectly normal bodily function we experience each month? We think so. Each week a member of our very own #PPSquad will be sharing her period stories with you. Read, comment, share your own. Every story is welcome here.
This week’s period talk is from Claire, our Head Of Content.
What’s your period craving?
Most girls crave chocolate but for me it’s pasta – a huge bowl of spag bol smothered in melted cheddar to be specific. I don’t have a sweet tooth so it’s carbs all the way, baby.
I know my period is coming when…
I get over-emotional and sensitive. Usually nothing really fazes me but the week before my period I start welling up at songs, animals, old people walking by themselves – everything just gets a bit overwhelming. Damn hormones. The day before my period I also get deep cramps in my womb and usually one massive watery spot on my chin. My body is so predictable!
Tell us about your first period…
It was the summer between primary and secondary school. I remember going to the toilet and thinking that I’d had an accident of the number two variety. OMFG. I was so shocked I decided to shout the news to my mum who then checked and reassured me it was in fact my period. She was always really open about puberty so I knew it was coming and was actually quite excited about the prospect of starting year 7 ‘a real woman’.
Tell us a period cringe (we’ve all got one, hey…)
Remembering this still makes me cringe! I was about 22 and had gone to the beach with my friend, her new boyfriend and all of his friends. We were playing rounders together when one lad pointed at my leg and asked if I was OK. I looked down at my bare thighs (it was denim shorts weather) and there was blood all over them. I had leaked. ARGH. Luckily I had got quite into the game and made some dives so I managed to pass the massacre off as a cut leg, then I just ran as fast as I could into the sea and stayed there until my friend got me a towel to ‘stop the bleeding’.
Your favourite thing to do when you have your period is…
Have a hot shower, get into my pjs and watch something wholesome like Bake Off (obviously with a spag bol in one hand, some Pringles in the other…)
