Pink Parcel Period Talk: Amber, PR Account Executive

Wouldn’t it be easier if we were all more open about the perfectly normal bodily function we experience each month? We think so. Each week a member of our very own #PPSquad will be sharing her period stories with you. Read, comment, share your own. Every story is welcome here.

This week’s period talk is from Amber, our PR Account Executive.

What’s your period craving?

I know it’s cliché, but it really is chocolate for me – I’m dangerously addicted to Dairy Milk Fruit and Nut bars. I’ve recently switched from buying the single bars to the family-sized bars, which I can easily finish in one sitting without even flinching on a bad day. It’s also not unusual for me to get emotional when I find far fewer raisins in comparison to nuts, as they’re the best part – the wasted calories make me feel horribly cheated.

I know my period is coming when…

I cry at anything and everything. Sometimes I have to have a quiet word with myself when I’m getting unnecessarily upset about nothing and the tears won’t stop flowing – and then my period shows up and I’m like ‘oh, it’s just you’.

Tell us about your first period…

If I remember correctly I was in year 7 – it wasn’t particularly remarkable, I just noticed when I got home from school one day that something was a bit ‘different’ down there. The real fun began when it started getting insanely heavy a couple of months down the line. But I think the truly horrendous part was when my sister blurted it to my Dad and his response was ‘Why didn’t you say something?! We would have thrown a party!’. A period party? What the actual F.

My period cringe is (hey, we’ve all had them)…

When I was a teen I went to my then-boyfriend’s mate’s house party. I was really quite drunk so forgot that I was on my period and fell asleep on the sofa in the lounge – only to wake up the next morning to find I had leaked. I took my tights off and my whole lower half looked like a scene from Carrie, to the point that my friends had to join me in the bathroom with face wipes to help sort me out. We then swiftly left to avoid any and all questions about the whole debacle.

Your favourite thing to do when you have your period is…

I put on my biggest mum pants (no joke, I’ve actually been slowing collecting my mum’s comfy M&S knickers over the years) and snack on treats like there’s no tomorrow.
