Meet The World’s First Reusable Tampon Applicator!

If mooncups aren’t really your thing but you don’t want to contribute to the 7,000,000,000 (that’s a lot of 0’s) plastic tampon applicators that pile up in landfills every single year, listen up! Period panty brand Thinx are launching a reusable tampon applicator.

The innovative new product, named ‘RETA’ for short, is a rinse-clean, medical-grade silicone tube that helps you insert your tampons again and again without contributing to the world’s existing waste.

Thinx CEO Miki Agrawal is seriously passionate about the environment and wants to combat waste for future women. She told Bustle: “The next generation is F-ed if we don’t come up with sustainable innovations! There will be more plastic in the ocean than fish by 2050 if we don’t change direction fast now!”

The reusable tampon applicator has been built to last up to 10 years so is way more environmentally friendly, plus the product is about the same size as your fave lippy – basically made for your favourite clutch. It also fits every brand of tampon!

The only drama now is working out how to use it *watches cool GIF below and understands just how easy it is*.

That’s it! You just pop your tampon into the applicator, insert it into your vagina, rinse it off, then pop it back in your bag. AH-MAZING.

So, we get that it’s easy and totally sustainable, but why use applicators at all?

“Sometimes nails are long and it scratches, sometimes hands aren’t clean, sometimes people don’t want blood in their nails, often your finger doesn’t push it up high enough. There are so many reasons why it’s annoying to just use applicator-less tampons,” explained Miki.

Amen, sister.

Want one now? Course you do. The applicators are set to go on sale in March this year so you can sign up to the waiting list here!
