6  life lessons we’ve learnt from Katniss Everdeen

As the third of the Hunger Game films – The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 – hits cinemas today, we take a look at what we’ve learnt from the heroine of the movies, Katniss Everdeen.

1. Where there’s a will, there’s a way

Is there anyone more determined than Katniss? Whether it’s trying to avoid the other tributes killing her, surviving on no food or losing people she cares about, Katniss is determined with a capital D! She carries on, when the odds are stacked against her. So you find your latest maths homework difficult to understand? Never mind, just carry on studying and try, try again.

2. Look after yourself

Remember in the first Hunger Games movie, Katniss sought out the water source before anything else? Why? She knew that to survive and to help others, she had to look after herself first. A little bit of you time is never a bad thing – so make sure you take some time out to pamper yourself with your Teen Parcel treats this week.

3. Know your strengths

Katniss knows that the bow and arrow is the best weapon for her, so she never even thinks about choosing anything else. The lesson here? Discover your talents and spend time nurturing those. If your voice cracks mirrors, you’ll probably never make it as a singer but your great guitar playing could be the key to that fortune in the future!

4. Sometimes it’s OK to break the rules

Katniss doesn’t fit the mould of previous Hunger Games contestants. She stands up for herself, looks after others and also starts a rebellion. While we’re not recommending you break the law or do something your parents have told you not to, there are times when you should stand up for what you believe in – even if that means bending the rules a little.

5. Without love, there’s nothing

Katniss may have an amazing ability to survive the very worse that life can throw at her, but she also knows without the love of her family or a handsome boy (or two!), there’s not much point in being able to shoot a bow and arrow with amazing accuracy. Don’t forget to take time out to appreciate those who love you.

6. Take a risk in the fashion stakes

Katniss may be the ultimate tomboy, but she really makes an impression in her fiery gowns. Add unusual accessories or rock a bold colour when you need to stand out – just keep away from naked flames…
