Smile! Here’s how to create no-filter-needed skin

It’s that time of the year when cameras are out and about in force, whether it’s for that making- your-mates-jealous-on-Facebook group holiday shot or that cool selfie at #Glastonbury. However, it seems most of us won’t be braving any social media sites this summer without the use of a skin- flattering filter.

According to new research from skincare brand Olay, 68% of women feel negative about photos of themselves that haven’t been enhanced by a photographic filter. They confess to feeling exposed, unconfident and unattractive before a filter is applied.

Women say that the most important change a filter makes to a selfie is to hide flaws and wrinkles (33.6%) or that it helps achieve a better skin tone (27.3%).

Of course, there may be even more ‘flaws’ to cover up when it’s your time of the month after all, we’ve all experienced period-related spots or puffy skin thanks to water retention.

So what’s a girl to do if they want to go filter-free this summer? The secret it seems is all in the prepping.

Florrie White, celebrity make-up artist explains: ‘It does take time to achieve the illusion of effortless beauty and have the confidence to go filter free. For me, the all-important starting point is in prepping your skin’.

One of the best weapons for faking good, natural skin is a CC Cream. CC Creams are clever hybrid skincare products that make it easy to recreate summer’s barely-there beauty trend of natural, flawless and younger-looking skin.

They combine a very sheer veil of colour with skincare ingredients and colour correctors, ensuring your skin looks at its very best – regardless of whether you use a filter.

We’ve picked our favourites so now go forth, apply and smile with confidence in those holiday pics!

If you’re busy: Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 CC Cream Moisturiser (£14.99, boots.com)
This clever cream makes skin look instantly flawless while working to help correct the complexion over the time. The ultimate multi-tasking product!

If you’re on a budget: Lacura CC Cream (£4.99, Aldi)
At half the price of most of the cheapest CC Creams out there, this bargain face primer contains plant extracts and vitamin B3 to improve the complexion and reduce appearance of wrinkles. We’ll have two please!

If you have oily skin: B. Confident CC Cream (£10.89, superdrug.com)
The matte finish on this CC Cream means you’ll have a shine-free face all day.

If you have dull skin: L’Oréal Paris Nude Magique CC Creams (£9.99, boots.com)
These trouble-shooting beauties come in three different versions, depending on your skin issue – anti-redness, anti-dullness and anti-fatigue. The hydrating anti-dullness option will give you an instant glow.

If you’re off on holiday: Avon Ideal Flawless CC Colour Corrector Cream (£12, avonshop.co.uk)
The high SPF of 50 makes this CC cream a must-pack for your holiday this year – burnt noses do not a good profile picture make!
