Got your period? Be careful who you’re lusting after…
Have you ever found yourself drooling over a manly man such as action men Jason Statham or Chris Hemsworth when your normal type is more Chris Martin? If so, your hormones might be to blame.
Studies have shown that women at the peak of their fertility prefer macho men, oozing with testosterone.
A research project, conducted in 2013, tested women’s sexual scent preferences. Female volunteers sniffed T-shirts that had been worn by men rating them for pleasantness, sexiness and intensity. The researchers also took saliva samples from the men to measure hormone levels of testosterone and cortisol.
The results showed that women who were ovulating – which happens 10-16 days after a period starts – were drawn to the men with higher testosterone.
However, a more recent study says our hormones play no part in who we’re attracted to. Researchers at the University of Southern California revealed that woman want to date masculine men regardless of their cycle! The same study also discovered – not surprisingly – that wherever they were on their menstrual cycles, women also preferred kind men.
Thankfully then it seems we are in control of who we fancy, however, it does mean when you date that bad boy, who eventually lets you down, you can’t blame it on your hormones.
