7 easy cheats to help hide your hangover

The Christmas party was fantastic. Dancing, drinking, gossiping, drinking… But today is another day and you’ve got to face everyone at work. These tips will ensure you look the part – even if you don’t quite feel it.

Turn on the cold tap

Don’t worry, we’re not suggesting you have a cold shower but it’s a good idea to splash your face with very cold water. Not only does it REALLY wake you up, but it can also help reduce any puffiness and tighten pores. Obviously it won’t last all day but it will give you the kick-start you need.

Sort out those peepers

Tired, red, puffy eyes? If you were in Hollywood you’d don a pair of shades for the day, but as that might not go down so well in Birmingham , but there are some ways to make your eyes look a little more alive.

  • Reducing puffiness: Cucumber is great for reducing puffiness but if you’re all out of cucumber – or the thought of slicing one turns your stomach – try using a spoon. Stick it in the fridge for 10 minutes and then hold over your eyes.
  • Dealing with dry, sore eyes: Dehydration not only makes you want to drink 10 pints of water the next day, but it also makes you eyes feel dry and sore. Your best friend is eye drops, which will help make them feel – and look – better. A nude eyeliner is also a good hangover tool – use it to line your inner eye and remove those red rims. No-one will be none the wiser that you only got 2 hours sleep! We like Rimmel’s Kohl Liner in Nude, £3.99 from Superdrug.
Laying the foundation

You need every weapon in your make-up box to help hide your hangover so definitely don’t skip the primer. Choose either one that blurs skin to hide wrinkles and any other signs of a late night – such as Garnier 5 Second Perfect Blur Primer, £12.99 from Boots – or one that adds a glow, which is really important if you have that sallow, hung-over skin. We like Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion, £26 by Clarins.

Concealer is your best friend

The aim here is not to lay it on thick as that’s a sure sign you’re trying to cover something up. Instead, try and use a concealer with yellow undertones. They counteract those dark bags and will help make you look more awake. The W7 concealer palette, as found in this month’s Pink Parcel, contains a variety of shades ensuring total coverage of those dark circles.

Add some colour

While you don’t want to go overboard with your make-up, your skin probably needs a shot of colour. A pink or peach blush brushed onto the apples of your cheek will instantly give skin a lift. Alternatively, apply a bright red or pink lipstick and even if you don’t feel great, you know you’ll look it!

Get a mini face lift

You probably won’t have the time or inclination to do much with your hair today. If you’ve got long hair, tie it up. It’s not only quick and easy, but will also give you an instant face lift, making you appear much more awake.

Give yourself an energy boost

To get through the entire day of work is going to take nerves of steel – and a bit of help. While you can up the caffeine, we prefer to take a couple of Gluco Tabs (raspberry is our favourite flavour), a natural energy product, which helps give you a boost of energy, especially important around that 3pm slump!
